DIY Beauty Recipe: Simple Hair Oil

Hair oils are a great way to keep your hair and scalp healthy and refreshed, while also providing some much-needed protection against harmful particles in the environment. Here at G&G, a.k.a. Glow & Green, I try to raise environmental issues, while creating DIY beauty recipes using natural elements.

Sounds complicated? Don't worry; I’m just trying to say that making your own beauty products helps both you and the environment – that’s it!!

Growing up in India, hair oil was one of the first self-care treatments I experienced in my childhood. At that time, it was more like a reminder of Monday morning, as hair oiling was our Sunday evening ritual.

I never liked it when I was little, but now I miss that ritual so much.

Today, I am going to share a beautiful and straightforward recipe: hair oil from my childhood! It is made from two pure carrier oils, and it works wonders on polluted and dirty hair.

In the past, I wrote about Carrier Oils – Natural Beauty Products. Our carrier oil blog post will give you an awesome foundation for this DIY recipe.

This natural DIY recipe is made up of two ingredients: amla/gooseberry oil and prickly pear oil. So let's break down the ingredient details and then the method.

Amla/Gooseberry Oil:

Amlaoil

Amla oil is well known when it comes to Indian skincare. Amla/Gooseberry oil comes from the Indian gooseberry fruit (also known as Emblica Officinalis or Phyllanthus Emblica).

This oil helps us fight hair loss, stimulate hair growth, and prevent prematurely gray hairs. Amla oil contains abundant fatty acids, which makes this oil unique.

Besides fatty acids, amla fruit is high in vitamin C, flavonoids, and polyphenols, and also contains water, protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

Prickly Pear Oil:

Prickly Pear Oil

Prickly pear oil contains the most vitamin E of any beauty oil on the market. Research shows that it has 150% more than argan oil.

It also has the highest percentage of unsaturated fatty acids. Prickly pear oil can work wonders when it comes to softening hair, improving the health of the scalp, and cleansing.

So, here is Recipe: Hair Oil.

Ingredients & tools:

1. 2 oz. amber dropper bottle (Amazon)

2. 1.8 oz. prickly pear oil

3. 0.2 oz. amla oil

Method:

Mix prickly the pear oil and the amla oil together. Mix it really well. Pour the mixture in the amber dropper bottle and use it before washing your hair.

Shelf life:

2-6 months

Note: A patch test is recommended before you apply any DIY products.
