When I designed my first body care and skincare line (shop here), a few of my friends requested toner or mist in my line. When I mentioned that I plan to bring “rosy facial mist,” aka “rosy hibiscus toner,” they all got excited. And believe it or not, but that’s one of the most requested products in my collection.
But let me tell you one thing, if you enjoy using toner, I am all for it. Still, I don’t spend money on water-based products just because someone in a salon or on the counter asked you to use it to remove the last trace of cleanser or open your pore. Frankly, toner doesn’t open pores or remove traces of the cleanser.
There are some excellent reasons for you to use this water (or floral water). It is because you just loved them, or your skin is dehydrated (not dry - there is a difference in those two conditions). It is better to have this product in your beauty cabinet. While toner consists of 90% plus of water. And that’s why I think that it costs a lot (here is an affordable version- our rosy mist where we do not add water; instead, we use rose water). While making toner is really easy to make as per your skin health and skin needs. That’s why we came up with 3 colorful toners, which will give you much-needed hydration.
In my opinion, other than hydration, toner also prepares the skin for the next steps in your regimen. These next steps could be adding night cream or vitamin c serum or any other skin treatment to absorb pretty well.
But before we go further, here are few things we want to consider:
Never make a massive amount of toner. Since we are making this product at home, we do not include any preservatives. Products without preservatives won’t last long. This product will not last more than 4-5 days at room temperature and 7 days in the refrigerator.
Think your toner’s ingredients like food ingredients. Always include fresh and organic ingredients.
· Keep your toner bottle away from sunlight in a cool dark space.
· It is desirable to use a transparent glass bottle so that you can see the contamination.
· Based on your skin types and health, customize your skin toner recipe.
How do you make homemade natural face toner?
Here is how you can decide:
· First, decide on a theme of the face toner. Theme means – are you into floral toners? Or fruity one. Based on this, you will decide which ingredient with a fruity or floral scent will solve your skin problems, such as dehydration, anti-aging, or anything else.
· Now gather all the necessary ingredients. If you scent with essential oil, then find out which kind of essential oil you want to use (learn more here essential oil 101).
· Always measure ingredients in percentage. The percentage will provide you a perfect formula. Whether we make 2 oz or 1 oz, you will get the same kind of end product.
· Have some tools ready such as measuring scale, glass mixing container, whisk, and glass bottle(get the spray bottle).
· If you are planning to use essential oil, then make sure you shake well every time. In homemade face toner, we do not use solvent. The purpose of the solvent is to disperse the oil particle inside the water or hydrosol or floral water. That’s why it stays on the top. By including shaking, you are temporarily mixing them inside toner.
So now, let’s roll up your sleeve and make these fantastic toners. We are using aloe water in every toner recipe here. The reason is: aloe vera is an excellent humectant. The role of humectant is to retain moisture from the skin. After oil or gel cleansing, it is vital to use an ingredient like vegetable glycerin, honey, or aloe vera so that your skin will feel moist.
Hibiscus Rose Toner
This toner is a replica of my product, but it’s more like a homemade version. This version of toner is more fun than regular toner. Rosewater provides rejuvenation, cooling feels to your facial skin. At the same time, hibiscus is a great source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to promote collagen formation for firm, young-looking skin. So, if you are looking for anti-aging skincare in this facial toner, give this toner a try.

Butterfly Pea Lavender Toner
When it comes to toners, I love making colorful toners. This version of toner brings great purplish-blue color, which will attract you to use it every day. The ingredients in this recipe will hydrate and refresh the skin. Lavender is known for its calming properties, while butterfly pea will support the skin collagen structure, reduce the redness and improve the skin barrier. This facial toner is suitable for all skin types.

Orange Toner
This toner is one of my favorite ones, as yellow is my favorite color. Yellow gives vibrancy in life, so do this orange toner. In this toner, orange water/hydrosol makes a great facial spray for all skin types. It helps hydrate and tone the skin. This toner has a light astringent quality that balances skin sebum and promotes elasticity in the skin.
